Cap Jaseux Park was started in 1977 when Mr Paul Murdock gave away his property to the community of Saint-Fulgence. His goal was to create a park for public use while preserving its natural surroundings. Located in Saint-Fulgence, in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, it covers an area of approximately 200 hectares along the north shore of the Saguenay Fjord. The Park was managed by the Cap Jaseux Park Corporation from 1977 to 2001, before giving way to the Cap Jaseux Solidarity Cooperative which uses the commercial name of Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux. The site now belongs to the Municipality, but a long term lease delegates many responsibilities to the cooperative, which ensures the Park’s management, maintenance and development.
The goal of Cap Jaseux is to offer a wide variety of outdoor and ecotourism activities such as: sea kayaking, via ferrata (secured rock climbing), aerial hebertism, sailing, mushroom picking, massage therapy, fishing, and hiking. For visitors who wish to stay on site, there are tree houses standing over 8 metres off the ground, a dome with a view of the fjord, two hanging spheres, log cabins, and serviced or unserviced campsites. In addition, the construction of a dock and welcome centre in the beach sector now allows visitors to access the Park by land or by sea via the Navette Maritime du Fjord (Fjord Marine Shuttles). These amenities assure that Cap Jaseux will be a valuable and enjoyable ecotourism experience.
The cooperative has three types of members: staff, users and supporters.
Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux, with its wide range of activities, natural resources, accommodation and complementary services has become a leading destination in the field of adventure and ecotourism. Its penchant to evolve and innovate – thanks in part to its Extreme Fjord Treetop Adventure – and its existing accommodations, make it truly unique.
